please note this wonderful article in today's globe about ngoc-tran vu who lives in south boston, and is graduating from the winsor school and will be attending brown in the fall. like vinh hua, the boston high school student- poet profiled on 5/13 in the globe, ngoc-tran also references the importance of the Coalition for Asian Pacific American Youth (CAPAY) at UMB in her development.

fyi, ngoc-tran's older sister, Vy, who was also a CAPAY youth leader in high school, is graduating from Yale this year. i helped vy with her just completed senior thesis which was a study of the role of the religious institutions in dorchester's vietnamese community. pk

Rona Flippo has been named a Massachusetts Literacy Champion Award winner for 2006-2007. These awards are given by the Massachusetts Literacy Foundation in conjunction with the "Boston Herald" and "Verizon Reads". Rona hopes to include her interested graduate students at UMB in the Program Grant that comes with this honor. Rona's grant will provide professional development opportunities for Rona's students as well as literacy information to parents/families/and day care centers in UMB's immediate urban area (rf)
